AMD 5800K “Trinity” review

Hey guys….
How are ya all?
Well…this review am bringing in today is a follow up on my previous preview here .
So you guys are going to see a lot of old stuff picked up from that piece..so dont kill me!

Allright here goes..

now,we all know the lower end is where the action is and we have too many competitors on that range;some utterly overpriced,some utterly disappointing and some real brilliant performers.

Today we bring to you one such CPU from this range : AMD A10 5800K.
This little guy here is being projected as what one should have in an entry-level gaming PC or HTPC setup.
So lets see if its worth the hype..shall we?

Now with that aside i will give you a small diagram of the die and dive into performance numbers

Now before we start with the technical number and stuff i would like to get you accustomed with the setup i used.

the FCH heatsink looks pretty nice on this board.

The VRM heatsink also compliments the theme..as expected.

the  benchmark data is divided into two parts for this review…one for the CPU side of things..and the second is for GPU performance..but sadly my sample was not too strong on the GPU side…so i spent too much time to stabilize it than run benchmarks..guess i was not too lucky in silicon lottery.

But that aside lets see how it performs..

Every benchmark was run until the results were consistent to rule out margin of errors as much as possible.

First is the Aida 64 benchmark suite. The routine consists of different benchmark that stresses the CPU and FPU performance.

I will let the graphs do the talking.

So there goes the AIDA 64 benchmark suite.Overall everything looks good for that price point.

next up is a few real world workloads like Cinebench and POV Ray and 7Zip and x264 FHD benchmark.

So this take cares of the CPU side of things..all in all a pretty strong contender at this price point.

So now comes the gaming and 3D part for which this lineup is famous.

I didn’t get much time to run my whole gpu suite since i was busy in achieving a stable overclock(unlucky me!)
So don’t kill me after u see the amount of games i managed to run.
I promise i will run a full suite if i ever have the change again…

Anyway..enough talk lets see how the 3D side stacks up..

First benchmark is :

Aliens VS. Predator is DirectX 11 benchmark which provides stunning graphics through the use of DirectX 11 Tessellation and DirectX 11 Advanced Shadow features, Geometry Tessellation is applied in an effective manner to enhance and more accurately depict famous Alien design. Through the use of a variety of adaptive schemes, applying tessellation when and where it is necessary, the perfect blend of performance and eye candy is achieved.

Battlefield 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronic Arts. It is a direct sequel to 2005′s Battlefield 2, and the twelfth installment in the Battlefield franchise. The game uses Frostbite 2 which is the next generation of Frostbite Engine. It takes full advantage of the DirectX 11 API and 64-bit processors,with no support for DirectX 9 so NO XP.It also features enhanced in-game destruction with Destruction 3.0, creating more refined physics than its predecessor and quasi-realtime radiosity using Geomerics’ Enlighten technology.

 

Crysis is a FPS series developed by German developer Crytek and published by Electronic Arts. The series revolves around a group of military protagonists with “nanosuits,” technologically advanced suits of armor that allow them to gain enhanced physical strength, speed, defense, and cloaking abilities. The protagonists face off against hostile North Korean soldiers, heavily-armed mercenaries, and a race of technologically advanced aliens known as the Ceph, who arrived on Earth millions of years ago for unclear reasons, and have recently been awakened. the game uses “cryEngine” which very demanding on the GPU and had made itself an benchmark from the time of its release. The story continues through 3 games.

Amd started the APU revolution with their llano series of processors.Which was a success among the people looking for something they can use in a fan-less silent system with the ability to game a bit.trinity picked up from where llano left and carried on the legacy quite gracefully.

We have a fairly powerful CPU on one hand which can handle everyday HTPC and home uses.
On the other hand we have a fairly powerful GPU when compared to the other on chip offerings which can handle a little bit of gaming while being able to run in a small form factor PC.

So overall AMD manged to pull off a pretty nice package for a wide user base.
And the chip-sets offer superb VFM in this price range.

All in all a 3.5 out of 5 rating for me and Team OCFreaks.
